The Yxlan section is truly beautiful, offering a 24 km hike close to the sea. The varied terrain, the summer cottage communities and the historic villages make it a perfect day hike.
Yxlan is an island of contrasts, offering a blend of lush pine forests, open meadows and dramatic rocky shorelines. The lake Träsket, the lighthouse and Stortallen — an old, majestic pine tree — are all worth a visit in their own right. The island's summer cottage villages and historic settlements give the section a vivid, personal character.
On Yxlan, the trail is not physically marked with SAT markings. Instead, it follows the local printed tourist map and the green-dotted trail highlighted on that map. You can use the interactive map to find your way if you prefer.
Daily SL bus from Norrtälje, then car ferry from Furusund to Yxlan. Summer season: Waxholm ferry from Stockholm via Vaxholm. 22 June – 16 August 2026: the Nordsyd line stops at several Yxlan quays.
