Furusund can be considered as a gateway to the northern Stockholm archipelago, offering a short but memorable section of the trail. This 7.2 km route passes through peaceful coastal landscapes and past cultural landmarks, making it perfect for a relaxed day hike or as part of a multi-section journey.
The area is known for its maritime history, charming houses, and the famous "Compass Rose" carved into the bedrock – a must-see for visitors.
The Furusund section is a nice hike. It is a 7.2 km gentle walk with some short, steeper sections through a tranquil archipelago landscape, with constant proximity to the sea. The roughly two-hour hike is a delightful experience.
On Furusund, the section is not physically marked with SAT markings but instead it follows a locally marked trail.
Daily SL bus from Norrtälje to Furusund. Summer season (22 June – 16 August 2026): archipelago boat from Stockholm via Vaxholm. The Nordsyd line operates during high summer.
